With the Peanut Festival right around the corner, festival officials have been in court trying to resolve a dispute with the State Department of Revenue.
Over the past few years, the state has been collecting sales taxes from festival gate receipts. Attorneys for the festival association filed a suit in court claiming that unfair.
Judge Lawson Little ruled in favor of the festival yesterday, saying the state has no right to levy taxes. He did say, however, the festival is not entitled to a refund of taxes paid in years past.
