It is almost that time of year again, when all Americans are urged to go to the doctor and get their flu shots, but did you know that of those people who need the vaccine the most, fewer than half actually get one?
This year, a record 100 million doses of flu vaccine will be available, with the majority of them being shipped to doctor`s offices by the end of October.
Every year, the flu hits 36 thousand Americans, and hospitalizes another 200 thousand. WDHN spoke to a local doctor, who encourages those at high risk to get a shot.
And, if you are wondering what exactly qualifies as "high risk", here is a list for you:
babies and toddlers from 6-23 months old; anyone 50 years or older; also children six months or older; adults with chronic health problems such as asthma or diabetes; pregnant women; health care workers; and anyone who lives or cares for someone at high risk.
