OCTOBER IS WORLD HUNGER MONTH

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
October was recognized as World Hunger Month by the Houston County Commission yesterday. Some 38-thousand people in the Tri-states go to bed under-fed...and the Wiregrass United Way Food Bank is a non-profit organization that stays open every day of the year to help those needy people. They serve five counties in Southeast Alabama, plus several cities in Northwest Florida and Southwest Georgia, serving every one who needs a meal. At yesterdays Houston County Commission Meeting, the commissiners asked that during World Hunger Month, those who live in Houston County, remember those less fortunate and donate. This year alone, the Wiregrass Food Bank has served thousands of meals and salvaged an incredible amount of food that would have been dumped. Those interested in donating can call the United Way Wiregrass Food Bank at 794-9775.
