With all the storms that have rolled into the south, it has left absolutely no time for rest for workers with the American Red Cross. In fact, Executive Director for the Wiregrass Red Cross, Susan Holmes, says they still have workers in Central Florida working with victims of Hurricane Charley...the firt major storm to hit the state this season. The Red Cross estimates it will cost around 68 million dollars to respond to the hurricanes. So far they have raised about 57 million in pledges, 26 million of which has already been received. Ms. Homes said it has been a busy Hurricane season so far. The Red Cross has opened 1,538 shelters with almost 400,000 people using those shelters. They have served almost 8 million meals and snacks, and have had an estimated number of 25,355 Red Cross workers in the disaster relief effort. They are doing everything possible, but they need your help as well. If you know someone who is interested in making a donation, please call 1-800-HELP-NOW, or visit their website at: www.dotredcross.org.
