Good News! It may not seem like it, but the next time you go shopping for groceries, you may be saving a little extra cash. That`s because after increasing sharply during the spring and early summer, grocery costs in Alabama are down for the month of September.
According to the Alabama Farmer`s Federation`s monthly food price survey, the 20 basic market-basket items were $44.56 this month...down 17 cents from August.
Increased production drove dairy prices down seven cents lower in September with a half-gallon of milk at $2.08. Meats were a mixed bag with some meats like steaks lower, and others like bacon a little higher.
Regional reports collected from September first through the seventh in the state, showed the market-basket averaged $42.82.
