SCHOOLS BACK IN SESSION

Updated: January 7, 2009
By Friday, Hurricane Ivan had pretty well blown over leaving clear skies and mild temperatures, but many area students still enjoyed the day out of school. But parents in Headland and Abbeville are upset that their kids were let out while Houston County and Dothan City schools went back to class. The extra day off caused some parents to have to provide unexpected childcare. But, the principal of Headland Middle School is standing by their decision saying tht dismissing on Friday was the best for all involved. Steve Williams of Headland Middle School said that many roads that school busses traveled were still closed because of debris, and at least 400 homes were still without power on Friday making it hard for kids to come to school prepared to learn. School administrators are unsure when those missed school days will be made up.
