Updated: January 7, 2009
Some exciting news for people suffering from major vision problems...recently some have turned to cornea transplants to improve their sight. If that procedure didn`t work by the third time, patients have been out of luck. Not anymore! There`s a new operation that has been performed for the first time in Alabama, and it was done right here in Dothan! Eye Center South has performed three new cutting edge cornea surgeries for the first time in state history. Dr. Peter Zloty, Eye Surgeon at Eye Center South successfullly completed the Dohlman Procedure first introduced in Boston. Dr. Zloty said 83 year-old Bannie Trudeau was the second person to receive this surgery. Zloty said Trudeau`s eye sight before this was done was very bleak...she was almost blind. Ms. Trudeau is so excited that she is able to see again. Alabama is one of only four states currently performing this procedure.
