COUNTERFEIT CASH FOUND IN LOCAL CIRCULATION

Updated: January 7, 2009
Authorities are sending out a warning to area residents, after some counterfeit cash was recently found in local circulation. Two phony ten dollar bills were spotted at the U-Save Food Outlet in Ashford Wednesday afternoon about 3 o`clock. The two counterfeits came from a stack of fifty ten-dollar bills, out of the People`s Community Bank in downtown Ashford. The clerk spotted the fakes by using a special pen, apparently the fakes caused a mark turned black, while the real money causes the pen to show a yellow color. The cash also had identical serial numbers. Investigators are now busy looking for those responsible for the funny money. If you have any information, you are asked to call the Ashford Police Department at 889-5113, or the Houston County Sherriff`s Office at 677-4808.
