ALABAMA POWER WORKERS IN CONTRACT DISPUTE

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
While thousands of people in southwest Florida are still in the dark due to last weeks hurricane, Alabama Power crews are being "blocked" from being sent to help those victims. The hold-up stems from a contract dispute between the company and it`s workers. Alabama Power`s contract with 28-hundred electrical workers expired on Sunday night, and negotiations are still underway. The company says union officials would not guarantee there would be no "work stoppage" while crews were in Florida. A spokesperson said it wouldn`t be wise to commit resources to the disaster area, not knowing if they would remain there as long as they are needed.
