One local politician from the Wiregrass has been honored for his work in the Legislature. At an afternoon meeting at the Dothan Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Representative Steve Clouse of Ozark, was presented with a certificate...to recognize him as being a sponsor of an important piece of legislation. The Department of Industrial Relations had a bill passed during regular session this year, related to what is known as the "Enhancement Fund". The fund takes up to six-percent of unemployment taxes that employers pay, and puts it toward keeping employment offices, particularly in rural areas, up and running. The fund was threatened last year because of several different issues. Clouse says some issues wanted money to go to different things. He adds, there are several reasons why it`s extremely important to keep those offices open. There had been 170 jobs at stake statewide, and many employment offices were threatened to close down, if, the Enhancement Fund had not been continued.
