CONTROVERY OVER AREA STREET NAMES

City officials have been talking about designating Denton Road as `Ronald Reagan Parkway`, and designating Burdeshaw Street downtown as `Martin Luther King Boulevard`.
For weeks now, Commissioner Amos Newsome has been pushing for Burdeshaw to take on the historical M. L. K. name.
The designation of Denton to `Ronald Reagan` has already been approved without much controversy, but the Burdeshaw designation has created a bit of a stir, and Commissioner Newsome wants to know why. He says he feels the African American Community should be granted the same privileges to honor historical black figures.
The City Commission is expected to hash out the issue at next weeks Administrative Meeting.
