As it turned out, Bonnie obviously didn`t pose any threat to area schools yesterday, however, local schools were prepared for whatever the storm stirred up.
Dr. Leon Hobbs, Superintendent of Dothan City Schools says that keeping kids in school during a storm watch is a tough decision, and he was up at 4am yesterday morning deciding the school days fate.
And just as the weather patterns were second guessed, so was Dr. Hobb`s decision. In fact, he and his staff still monitored tropical storm Bonnie all day.
They say schools are usually safer than homes for a number of reasons...Dothan High is built from one of the sturdiest materials...concrete. Schools are safe because school officials have the latest technology readily available to notify them of weather changes...also school officials have safety procedures in place.
Although students wanted the day off, Dr. Hobbs says he was glad school was not cancelled because the missed day would`ve needed to be made up at a later date.
