WIRELESS TOWER CONTROVERSY

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
U-R-S...a wireless telecommunications company has made a request through the Dothan Planning Commision within the city limits, but one local man is not too pleased about it. Ron Gilmore, a homeowner who lives not far from West Washington Road in Dothan, is upset with the fact that a 152 foot monopole Alltel Communication Tower will be in full skyline view of his neighborhood. U-R-S Project Manager Tony Dawson says, the company is abiding by strict city guidelines governing such structures...even going above and beyond the required 400 foot residential zoning restriction. Gilmore says the tower will be an eyesore to the community. Landowner Otis Tulley, who also lives not far from the project site says he doesn`t have a problem at all. The Planning Commission voted unanimously to "approve" the development plans for that wireless tower project. It will sit on a parcel of land across from the Buffalo Rock Pepsi-Cola Distribution Center, along with another location at 169 Ross Clark Circle.
