breaking news
County Commissioners recently proposed a Consumer Protection Program, requiring that homeowners get a permit "before" getting work done to their homes...property owners, however, say the proposal does more to hurt them than protect them.
The proposal states, "You must have a contractor licensed in Alabama for work done over 10 thousand dollars...permits must be obtained from Houston County, but at this time, the price of the permits are undetermined. This excludes farm buildings and commercial property."
Homeowner Priscilla Andrews says she is one of hundreds that disagree with the proposal and local contractors don`t translate into honest ones. Chairman Mark Culver maintains that the proposal is just that...a proposal, and Houston County is only implementing Alabama State Law. He stated the program orginally was scheduled to be voted on in early August, but because of the rising concern, the county commission has put the Consumer Protection and Inspection Program on hold. Ms. Andrews says that she is respectfully petitioning the program altogether. WDHN will keep you updated on this story as it unfolds.
