THE DOTHAN CITY PERSONNEL BOARD`S INVESTIGATION INVOLVING CAPTAIN JIM SMITH`S REGISNATION

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Personnel Director, Kai Davis took the witness stand yesterday to answer questions involving the Personnel Board and Citizens Supervisory Committee`s Investigation...attorneys hashing out whether or not those bodies have crossed their legal boundaries to investigate actions taken by Chief John White...and the alledged forced resignation of Captain Jim Smith. According to the Civil Service Act, the personnel board has no authority to investigate the Chief and unclassified employees, only classified service employees. Attorney Banks Smith questioned Personnel Board Chairman, Gary Griffin about the issue. Attorney Jere Segrest made numerous objections...and made it clear that his clients were not out to investigate any alledged criminal activity involving the Police Chief, only circumstances surrounding the protection of the rights of classified employees. After hearing both sides, Judge Larry Anderson decided to take the case under advisement...making no decision from the bench until he`s able to review all evidence presented in the hearing. WDHN will keep you up-to-date as the case unfolds.
