The doors at Northview High School were open today, for the faculty and staff of both Northview and Dothan High Schools, as well as the Dothan Technology Center and Pass Academy.
Dr.Sylvia Hooker of the Georgia School of Leadership was there speaking on "How to Motivate the Unmotivated,".
Hooker`s been in the education field for 21 years and says the number of student dropouts is on the rise.
She gave faculty and staff members tips on how to motivate those students.
"We are with the federal government and working with "No child left behind. We are charged, as educators, to get kids to come out with skills as they go into the adult world,".
To help motivate students, Hooker suggested making contact with parents or relatives of the student, restructuring the school, allowing later classes for students who can`t arrive earlier, and finally, making periodic, positive phone calls to parents.
Faculty memebers said they enjoyed listening to Hooker`s ideas and they are excited to work on their new goal of motivating students for the new year.
