If you havent had your flu shot, now is the time! The Houston County Health Department has started up their special flu/pneumonia vaccine clinic. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over a 100,000 people each year in the United States are hospitalized and about 36,000 people die because of the flu. "Its really important for people to come out and get there flu vaccination, especially those over 65 and those 2 years old and under. Those are the people that are likely to have cronic health conditions and would be likely get a serious secondary infection," says Nursing Supervisor Melissa Brown. Theres no charge for Medicare recipients who present their Medicare cards at the time of service and only five dollars for all others. If you happened to miss the clinic this week, the health department will start giving flu shots next week from 8 am until 12 noon, Monday through Friday. For more information call 334-678-2800.
