Updated: February 6, 2007
Houston County Schools may start a little earlier next year. The county school board would like to up the first day of classes by one week. The board feels that starting school earlier will benefit students, but some teacher have been concerned that coming in a week earlier will mean loosing a pay check. The superintendent says that teachers will not loose any money-- and that the change will mean more resting time for students. The extra week will allow time for a two week fall break and a two week spring break. The state board of education recommends that schools start no earlier than august 9th.
