NEW COUNTY SCHOOL BUSES

Updated: January 7, 2009
The Houston county school board voted to accept a bid today for the purchase of eight new school buses. The county will use thirty- thousand dollars in fleet renewal money from the state to buy the new buses, which means the actual cost to the county will be around $400-thousand. The amount of money for fleet renewal is based on the number of buses in operation that are less than 10 years old. Well, the county has seven buses that are eleven years old. So instead of losing of losing the 44 hundred dollars per bus in state money, new busses will be purchased to ensure the fleet renewal money is still issued. Southland international was the lowest bid for the buses. The superintendent says new buses are essential to insure the safety of students.
