Updated: January 7, 2009
A Houston County grand jury is meeting this week and, among cases it is hearing, is one that involves area law enforcement officer. The case stems from a high-speed chase on July 10, 2003 that began in Dale County then ended in Houston County. Several law enforcment agencies were involved in the chase including Houston County Sheriff`s deputies, state troopers and Dothan Police. A state officer has already been fired in connection with the culmintion of the high-speed chase. However, a county deputy was cleared by Sheriff Lamar Glover of any wrongdoing. Grand Jury proceedings are secret but it is believed that District Attorney Doug Valeska is presenting evidence, including a videotape from a Dothan patrol car, to the panel. That investigative body can take no action or could bring criminal charges in the case.
