Rapid business development in Dothan has recently out grown the number of certified fire inspectors, a big concern for Dothan Fire Chief Sam Crawford.
"Legally any license business in the city of Dothan has to be inspected annually, and then we have what we call target properties, any ones handling chemicals, healthcare facilities, daycares, and schools would get at least twice and some would get inspections quarterly," says Crawford.
And Crawford says, the city recently recruited members from various engine companies and train them in order to meet the increasing demand.
"We have a 172 uniform members and by utilization of that work force we can get a larger coverage for these license businesses, says Crawford.
Currently, the fire department only has 3 inspectors to cover about 6,000 business and officials say the new procedures can and will save more lives in this growing community.
