Michael Jerome Lewis is on trial in Houston County Circuit Court for the April, 1997 murder of Timothy John Kaye. The jury heard from James Anthony Free who has already been convicted for his part in the murder and sentenced to life without parole. Free told the jury that he and Kaye got into a fight at Lewis`s home when Lewis joined the fight and began beating Kaye in the head with a rock. he said Lewis later shot Kaye in the head and ordered him at gunpoint to go with him to dump the body in a river in Holmes County, Florida. Lewis has been in the Houston County Jail since the murder six and a half years ago. District Attorney Doug Valeska is seeking the death penalty for Lewis. The trial should conclude by the end of the week.
