The Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity in partnership with Dothan Realtors Association are celebrating "Building on faith week" by continuing their efforts to provide brand new homes to those in need.
Students from Northside Methodist Academy say volunteering has helped them appreciate their own blessing.
"Its like a humbling experience to know that youre helping somebody and their gonna have a home now," said Schyler Branton.
Every piece of wood placed and nail hammered gives hope to families who wouldnt otherwise have the opportunity to own their own home.
Future homeowner Katherine Veneziano
says the reality of owning her own home hasnt quite set in yet.
"Right now its still volunteering but when you start picking out your house, your colors, what you want thats when it becomes a reality," said Veneziano.
Each potential homeowner is responsible for volunteering at least 500 work hours helping others to fulfill their dreams, and Veneziano says she didnt think shed make it past the first day.
"I wanted to quit. It was hot and I thought Im never gonna do this 500 hours by myself," said Veneziano.
Most volunteers say helping with habitat projects takes much dedication, but they also say the end reward makes it all worth it.
