Every week Silvan Learning Center and WDHN join together to present a local teacher with a "Golden Apple Award". The award is presented to a teacher who has shown excellence in the classroom. This weeks award was given to Amy Rhodes. Rhodes has been teaching at Enterprise High School for seven years. She commented,"I enjoy working with kids and science is such an interesting subject, we can learn so much from it, so I try to be energetic and enthusiastic and relay that to my students" She encourages students to ask questions and tries to make the classroom comfortable. Sometimes she tells jokes in order to make them laugh and relax them. She believes sometimes teachers are the only people that they see everyday that maybe they get a smile from so she encourages laughter.
One of her biggest awards is to watch her students succeed."I like to see all the smiles on their faces and just in their eyes that they have achieved something for themselves" Students appreciate her energy. Marki Schermerhorn said, "shes probably one of the best teachers Ive ever had. She relates to us, she doesnt talk down to us, she talks to us like were grown ups" Congratulations Amy Rhoades! You are this weeks "Golden Apple Award" winner.
