Lanelle Wiggins Folkes

Lanelle Wiggins Folkes, a resident of Webb, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at her residence. She was 85.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Bluff Springs Baptist Church with Brother Dennis Singletary and Dr. Kermit Soileau officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bluff Springs Baptist Church, 1990 Bluff Springs Road, Ashford, AL 36312.

Mrs. Folkes was born December 6, 1927 to the late Burke and Mary Lizzie Johnson Wiggins and was a lifelong resident of the Ashford and Webb area. She was a 1946 graduate of Ashford High and retired as the Secretary of the lunchroom at Ashford. Mrs. Folkes was a very active member of Bluff Springs where she served faithfully as long as her health permitted. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, church family, her neighbors and many friends.

Mrs. Folkes is preceded in death by a brother, Carlos Wiggins and a son in law, James Parrish.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, W.C. Folkes, Webb; daughters, Donna Parrish, Webb, Carol Sheffield and her husband, Terry, McDonough, GA; son, Jim Folkes and his wife Brenda, Webb; eight grandchildren, John K. Selfe, III and wife, Lisa, Julie Evans and her husband, Clint, Kelli Collins and husband, Chuck, Mike Selfe and wife, Shiree, Paula Leverette, Jodie Shelley and husband, Michael, Chris and Raleigh Sheffield; twelve great grandchildren; and a large extended family.
