NEWSOME IN, GLANTON OUT IN DISTRICT TWO

Amos Newsome was elected Tuesday, July 22nd to the Dothan City Commission District Two seat. Newsome defeated 30-year incumbent John Glanton 447 votes to 326 votes. A high number of absentee ballots were cast for Newsome as the candidate worked to get people to obtain an absentee ballot then vote for him. Glanton, 79, had served on the commission since the early 1970`s and was one of the longest serving city officials in Alabama. Newsome will take office in October.
