Auburn, Ala. - The Auburn softball team will play a pair of midweek road games in the state of Tennessee this week as the Tigers take on Tennessee State on Tuesday and Middle Tennessee on Wednesday. Both games start at 2 p.m. CT.
Auburn is 18-7 overall and 1-2 in Southeastern Conference play after losing two-of-three from the fourth-ranked Florida Gators over the weekend. After losing a 13-0 rout in game one, the Tigers rebounded to take game two from the Gators 5-4. The rubber match featured a pitchers' duel as Florida's Hannah Rogers edged out Auburn's Lexi Davis for a 2-0 win. Davis allowed just one hit to the Gators, but Rogers countered by forcing the Tigers into stranding five runners on base.
"I'm proud of the way our team responded after Friday night's game," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "It was a big win for us on Saturday and we certainly had chances on Sunday but just couldn't get a hit when we needed it. Now it's time to put that behind us and focus on Tennessee State and Middle Tennessee. Tennessee State took us to the wire earlier this season and it certainly wasn't easy against Middle Tennessee either, they held the lead over us going into the bottom of the fifth last time."
Auburn defeated Tennessee State 3-2 in eight innings on Feb. 15 in Auburn. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but Tennessee State tied the game in the fifth inning. The Tigers were able to scratch out a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, but Tennessee State responded with a run and had the tying run on second base when the game ended.
Middle Tennessee led 3-0 going into the fifth inning before the Tigers got a grand slam from Branndi Melero in the bottom of the fifth. Auburn would add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim a 7-3 win on March 1.
