Hundreds turned out to the Dothan Education Foundation Fundraiser Thursday to hear the real-life Memphis mom Leigh Anne Tuohy that was portrayed in the hit movie the Blindside. Tuohy said despite all the hype from the hit movie and bestselling book 'The Blindside'; the life lessons are real."We lived this, this isn't something we read in a book or saw on a TV show. We know what happens when you provide education to someone," explained Tuohy.

She described Dothan as an 'education centered community' and that's why she chose to speak at the Foundation's first-ever fundraiser. She said her values line up with those that Education Foundation is trying to achieve. She hopes everyone knows they have the chance to make a difference. "There are Michael Ohers in Dothan; it doesn't even have to be to that level. It's just the person who needs a hand up and everyone can give that," continued Tuohy.

Dothan Education Foundation President, Tami Culver said this fundraiser was an opportunity for a spark to be ignited in a community that is already passionate about education. "I see the dedication to learning that teachers, students and this community has and I know Mrs. Tuohy's message will help further that dedication." explained Culver.

The Education Foundation raised thousands of dollars from Thursday's fundraiser.
