The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences was cut by more than 30 percent over the last three years forcing several satellite offices to close, including the one in Dothan. Sheriff deputies now have to drive to Montgomery to drop off evidence and Hughes said sometimes it could be up to six months before they get it back.

"The turnaround in Dothan when it was here was maybe a month at the most. A lot of times if it's something we needed very quickly, since the lab was right here we could get them to do it  for us and get it right back. It's not like that anymore," continued Hughes.

Houston County isn't alone in this problem, the Henry County Sheriff's Office is still waiting on the proper identification on two bodies found in January.
