The Alabama Online Insurance Verification System was meant to make things easier at the tag office by doing away with bringing in proof of liability insurance.

But it's having some issues.

"On a vast majority of the cases when we seek to verify insurance, we are getting an unconfirmed message," explained Houston County Probate Judge Patrick Davenport. "Consequently it is causing a bit of frustration."

The probate office is asking drivers to bring in all of the required paperwork in case their information has not been updated in the system.

"We're asking that if people would please bring verification of insurance in when they come to renew (as well as) their renewal and a copy of their ID and any person that is on the title. We also need a copy of their insurance," said Davenport.

Davenport said once the program has all of the insurance companies' cooperation, it will make a trip to the tag office much easier.

"Not having full compliance by the insurance companies makes it somewhat ineffective, but once there is statewide compliance by the insurance companies we are hopeful (the system) will be a tool that will help."

The new system is not the only thing making going to the tag office an easier trip.

The probate office has also added a tag line webcam where people can see just how long the wait is in real time.

The office has also added a display screen full of what is required for tag renewals, giving people the chance to make sure they have the right paperwork  before  making it to the front of the line.
