Bob Hendrix promotes Dothan's tournaments as the Executive Director of the visitors and convention bureau. Hendrix said next week's tennis tournament will bring in one million dollars in a weekend."This is new money that comes into the Dothan area and it turns over about four times, You can say a million dollars, but theoretically the indirect impact is a $2 million economic impact," explained Bob Hendrix.
Every dollar is broken down in several ways, which includes lodging tax and sales tax revenue. It also helps fund the city's recreational facilities like Westgate Park."If it wasn't for the visitors that were coming into Dothan the average household in Dothan would be paying an additional $550 in tax to receive the same benefits from the same local and state agencies they're receiving now. So it's great to bring in all of this new money because they're paying all of this tax for us," continued Hendrix.
