Houston County EMA Office Bracing For Flooding

For the second time in less than two weeks the folks at the Houston County EMA's office are holding their breath, watching and waiting to see if the wrath of Mother Nature will rear its ugly head. EMA Director Clark Matthews said, "the prediction we're getting from the weather service is we can get anywhere from three to eight inches of rain and possibly even double that."
The flooding nearly two weeks ago left parts of the city under water. Matthews said some people are worried it will happen again. He said the phone has been ringing off the hook with people wondering how to protect themselves and their property. Matthews suggested that people who live in low lying areas need to take precautions now. "You can dig a small ditch to tunnel the water away from your house. A lot people get out there when it starts flooding and it's overwhelming," continued Matthews.
Matthews said if things get bad, the EMA's office is prepared to be there for at least 36 hours straight.
