Property owners and engineers in Geneva County spent the day assessing the damage to roadways after the flooding Monday.

The county saw a large number of washed out or damaged roads and is asking people to be patient while they repair them.

Over 50 sites in Geneva County have damage and each site will be costly to fix.

"We are going to have to clean out ditches and probably up-size the driveway pipe," said Justin Barfield, an engineer with the county. "We're going to haul in loads of fill and build the road back up. This could be a $5,000 to $10,000 cost per site."

Fixing each site could cost the county upwards of $100,000, but district one commissioner Henley Hicks is hoping the state and federal government will step in to help.

"We will be writing a letter asking for damages," said Hicks.

County officials are asking people living in the damaged areas to be patient. They say engineers are working overtime to assess and fix all of the damages caused by the flood.
