Emma Jean (Vickie) Nordan

Emma Jean (Vickie) Nordan, a resident of Abbeville, died Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013, at The Terrace at Grove Park in Dothan. She was 90.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 14, 2013, in the Abbeville United Methodist Church with Mr. John S. Riley and Reverend Robert C. Yawn officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the Abbeville United Methodist Church Family Life Center.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Auburn University  Foundation, for the William Redding Solomon Auburn Scholarship Fund, c/o Tom Ziegenfelder, 630 Westbrook Road, Dothan, AL 36303.

            Mrs. Nordan was a native of Fayette, Alabama, daughter of the late Z. D. Vick, Sr. and Gertrude Dobbs Vick. She was a 1940 graduate of Fayette County High School where she was chosen as class Valedictorian.  Mrs. Nordan was also a 1944 graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) and served as President of Phi Omega Pi Social Sorority and was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Academic Honor Society. While a student at Auburn, she served as Secretary of the Women's Student Government.

             Mrs. Nordan married William Wayne Nordan in 1944 and moved to Abbeville where she was a partner in the operation of Nordan's Department Store and Nordan's Grass Farms. She was a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women. Mrs. Nordan formerly served as President of the Matrons Club and also participated in several bridge clubs.

            Mrs. Nordan was preceded in death by her husband, William Wayne Nordan, a grandson, William Redding (Billy) Solomon, two brothers, Z. D. Vick, Jr. and Timothy Vick.

            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Jeanie Nordan Solomon and husband, Art, Dothan; Billie Nordan Scott and husband, Al, Montgomery; four grandchildren, Tim Solomon (Molly), Claire Solomon Machamer (Greg), Lee Scott Jackson (Grant), and Allison Scott; a granddaughter-in-law, Stacey Solomon; four great-grandchildren, James Machamer, Will Machamer, Adams Jackson, and Preston Smith; a sister-in-law, Theda Dunham, Birmingham; several nieces and nephews.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Tim Solomon, John Vick, Hasting Sykes, Vann Owens, Grant Jackson and Greg Machamer.
