Two former G.W. Long football players put their pens to paper and signed college scholarships this afternoon, placekicker Zach Pierce and offensive lineman Alec Godwin. Pierce is taking his talents to Division 1 AA's Jacksonville State while Godwin is off to Division III's Southern Virginia University.

Pierce had back-to-back stellar seasons for the Rebels. He connected on 43 of 47 extra points as a junior and 61 of 64 as a senior. He also nailed 3 out of 4 field goals, on his way to being named special teams player of the year in 2011 and 2012.

Godwin was a 4-year starter on both the offensive and defensive line.
This past season, he was all-state and registered 52 pancake blocks. He did not allow a single quarterback sack in 80 pass attempts. Defensively, he had 50 tackles, one forced fumble and a safety.
