The Alabama Republican Party held its Chairman's Dinner and Winter State Executive Committee Meeting this Friday and Saturday in Birmingham.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus was the special guest for the Chairman's Dinner and U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (WI) was the keynote speaker.

Over 750 Republican Party supporters gathered to hear the national dignitaries speak to the way forward for the Republican Party on a national level. RNC Chair Priebus complimented Chairman Armistead's leadership of Alabama Republicans for the last two years. Priebus also praised Armistead for targeting county races last year and electing over 300 Republicans at the county level. He also thanked Armistead for sending busloads of volunteers to Florida and Ohio to assist the Romney/Ryan campaign in going door-to-door to win those states for the Republican ticket.  He also praised Governor Bentley for his leadership in driving down unemployment in Alabama by creating new jobs in the state.

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions introduced his friend Sen. Ron Johnson from Wisconsin. Senator Johnson addressed the need for federal budget reform and the dangers that unsustainable debt brings to the future of America. In attendance at the Friday evening reception were Governor Robert Bentley, Lt. Governor Kay Ivey, Treasurer Young Boozer, Chief Justice Roy Moore, U.S. Rep. Martha Roby, U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, several members of the legislature and a host of local elected officials.

Saturday morning the 400+ member State Executive Committee of the Alabama Republican Party met for its bi-annual meeting. Top of the agenda was the election of officers for the next two-year terms. The focus of attention was on the election of Chairman. Shelby County attorney Matt Fridy opposed Chairman Armistead.  Several elected officials including Gov. Robert Bentley supported Fridy. Armistead claimed the support of the rank and file Republicans in the state, and will return for another two-year term as Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party

"I have served this party for almost fifty years and my highest honor has been the privilege of being party chairman. I am grateful for the trust bestowed upon me by members of our party. This contest for chairman was a primary. Now we will do what Republicans do after primaries, and that is to come together as a team and take it to the Democrats," stated Armistead.

Governor Robert Bentley requested a note be read congratulating Chairman Armistead on his reelection and pledging to do his part to bring the Party together. Chairman Armistead thanked Matt Fridy for his willingness to serve the Party and his continued support of the party after this weekend.

Also elected on Saturday was George Williams, of Mobile, as Senior Vice Chairman, Jeff Peacock , of Escambia County, as Vice Chair of Districts 1 & 2, Holly Lollar of Birmingham, as Vice Chair for Districts 3,6 & 7, Harold Sachs, of Winston County, as Vice Chair for Districts 4 & 5.  Mallory Jackson, of Shelby County, was re-elected Treasurer, and Sallie Bryant, of Birmingham, was re-elected Secretary.

"I look forward to serving the next two years as Chairman and to work with our elected officials and our state Republican Committee to further solidify our position as the majority party in Alabama.  Together we will put forward a plan that will build upon past election success and grow our party. And in the 2014 election cycle, we will elect Republicans to every statewide office and defend and grow our majorities in the legislature and pick up numerous county elected officials," said Armistead.
