Syble Walker Cook

Syble Walker Cook, a resident of Abbeville, died Monday afternoon, January 28, 2013, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 83.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 31, 2013, in the Abbeville United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert C. Yawn, Reverend Ray Kelly and Reverend Dianne Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the Abbeville United Methodist Church Family Life Center.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Abbeville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 100, Abbeville, AL 36310.

            Mrs. Cook was born and reared in Dale County, near Ozark, daughter of the late William Lewie Walker and Evie Andrews Walker. She was a graduate of the Dale County High School in Ozark. Mrs. Cook lived in Abbeville all her adult lifetime. She was an active member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church and the Irene Riley Circle of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Cook was also a life member of the Twilight Garden Club. She was retired as the Registrar for the Henry County Health Department. Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by four brothers, Gene Walker, Leslie Walker, Smitty Walker and Rex Walker.

            Surviving relatives include her husband, James Lamar (Swifty) Cook, Sr.; a daughter, Jan Cook Peterson and husband, Derek, Abbeville; two sons, James Lamar (Jim) Cook, Jr.  and wife, Bonnie, Dothan; Jeff Cook and wife, Leslie, Headland; a sister, Ruth Walker, Lillian, AL; four brothers, Billy Walker (Kay), Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Joe Walker, Ozark; Bob Walker (Jane), Ft. Myers, FL; and George Walker, Maplesville, AL; a sister-in-law, Vernie Mae Walker, Ozark; eight grandchildren, Will Peterson, Claire Peterson, Haley Cook, Jameson Cook, Sarah Beth Parker, Zach Parker, Lauren Cook and Jack Cook; a great-granddaughter, Madi Grace Hopper.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
