Sheriff Andy Hughes Issues Facebook Statement On Gun Rights

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: January 17, 2013
Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes took to social media this morning to issue a statement on gun control.

A post was made to the Houston County Sheriff's Office facebook page a short time ago quoting Hughes. The quote says, "As Sheriff of Houston county it is my job to protect the constitutional rights of our citizens. The second amendment is a right, not a privilege and shall not be infringed upon. As long as I am Sheriff of Houston County, I will not allow anyone to seize any firearms from law abiding citizens within this county."

The post has already generated 187 likes, 87 shares and almost 20 comments.

Sheriff Hughes is not alone in his opinion. Law enforcement officials all over the country are making similar statements after President Barack Obama issued almost two dozen executive orders related to gun control on Wednesday. President Obama is also calling on congress to ban assault weapons.
