Mr. Bobby Leon Martin of Slocomb passed away Friday,
January 11, 2013 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was
76.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday,
January 13, at Rehobeth Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Free officiating. Burial will follow in Big Creek United
Methodist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive
friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to the Rehobeth Baptist Church "Challenge to Build Fund," 4444 State
Highway 605, Dothan, AL
36301.
Mr. Martin was born on May
1, 1936 in Houston County, AL to the late Grady and Cora B. Martin. He was a 1954 graduate of Rehobeth High
School and served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Rehobeth Baptist Church
where he had served as a deacon.
Following his military service, Mr. Martin was employed by Hedstrom Union
Company, Southern Flooring Distributors and Red Fox Fertilizer. He enjoyed ministering to his family and
working on his farm.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; two granddaughters, Sara Elizabeth and Sydney Grace Martin; and a
sister, Ruth Branton.
Survivors include his wife
of 53 years, Katie Box Martin of Slocomb; two sons: Tim Martin and Brad (Kim) Martin of Slocomb;
a daughter: Karen (Joe) Strength of
Leesburg, GA; four grandchildren: Cadet
Jarred Strength of the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO,
Justin Strength of Leesburg, GA, Sam Martin and Emma Martin both of Slocomb; a
brother: Johnny E. (Evelyn) Martin of
Dothan; three sisters: Eloise McLain,
Merle Harrell and Sara Dooling all of Dothan; a brother-in-law: Raymond (Martha) Box of Slocomb; several
nieces and nephews.
