AJ McCarron a Candidate for the AAU James E. Sullivan Award

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Alabama junior quarterback AJ McCarron has been announced as a candidate for the AAU James E. Sullivan Award. The award honors the nation's most outstanding amateur athlete.

The Sullivan Awards has been presented annually since 1930, and is based on character, leadership and sportsmanship.

Notable recipients of the AAU Sullivan Award include: Mark Spitz, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Florence Joyner, Peyton Manning, Michael Phelps, J.J. Redick, Tim Tebow, and Shawn Johnson.

McCarron has now led Alabama to back-to-back national championships while at the helm of the offense. The junior broke the school record for passing touchdowns in a season and in a career.

He threw for 2.933 yards in 2012 with 30 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He sported a passer efficiency rating of 175.3 and averaged 209.5 passing yards per game. McCarron has compiled a 25-2 record as a starter over the last two seasons.
