Officers were called to the scene of an accidental shooting in Headland on Friday evening and while they were searching for a weapon, they discovered hundreds of pieces of jewelry.

"The officers were checking the scene trying to find traces of blood and the weapon that was supposedly used and they stepped up on this jewelry. It was right behind the house where the accidental shooting took place," said Chief Mark Jones.

Investigators said the jewelry nearly covered the back yard and they expect to recover more throughout the week.

Chief Jones believes some of this jewelry could belong to Dothan Police Officers and could help solve break-ins that recently targeted several of their homes. "We believe that this is going to be a lot of our jewelry that's involved in a lot of our burglaries. We have some pieces that we've already identified through one of our local burglaries," explained Jones.

Investigators said that the jewelry could be from more than 150 homes. They are continuing to weed through the merchandise and expect to make several arrests in the next couple of days.
