2012 was filled with highs and lows for the Circle City. The Yura Corporation selected Dothan as its North America headquarters, but weeks later Both Pemco and Sara Lee closed its doors.

City Manager Mike West said replacing those jobs is a priority for 2013.

"Pemco is significant for a lot of reasons not only for the jobs and the employment opportunities for our residents, but the revenue also supplemented the Dothan Regional Airport," said West.

Finding a place to dump the city's trash is also on the agenda. West said commissioners must determine if they will expand the city's landfill or dump the trash somewhere else.

"With only two years left it's a pressing issue that has so be put to bed in a few months. If the decision is to go to another landfill the city has more time to determine wear," explained West.

Construction on the Ross Clark Expansion project will also begin in 2013. The construction will be done along the Circle, from Montgomery Highway to Bauman Drive.

"Anything we can do to minimize the traffic congestion benefits us not only in terms of life and safety issues, but economically, continued West.

West said they city is working to hire someone to design construction plans for Jim Oates Park, He said, "There is much interest in this city to see this park developed and providing a home for the girl's softball and replacing the Doug Tew Center.

West said all the plans are contingent on the financial stability of the city. The city has a strategic planning meeting with Lyle Sumek planned for the end of the month to determine which items will take priority.
