DENTON, Texas - The conference schedule is in full swing, as the Trojans (5-9, 0-3) travel to Denton, Texas, to face North Texas (5-9, 0-3) at 7 p.m. on Thursday night at the Super Pit. Both teams will be looking for their first Sun Belt win of the season.
Troy enters the game having lost two straight. The Trojans fell at home to Florida Atlantic, 61-54, last Thursday, moving them to 0-3 in conference play for the third straight season. In the previous two seasons, Troy won its fourth conference game, defeating Western Kentucky on both occasions.
Antoine Myers and Emil Jones are tied for the team lead in scoring, averaging 9.9 points per game so far this season. Jones also leads the Trojans in rebounding, with 6.2 boards per game. Troy continues to protect the ball well, averaging just 9.9 turnovers per game, the sixth fewest in the country.
Myers also leads the Trojans in conference games, averaging 14.0 points through three games this season. Hunter Williams is dishing out 3.7 assists per game in conference, while Ray Chambers is grabbing 6.7 rebounds per game in conference.
North Texas enters the game after dropping three straight. Last week, the Mean Green fell at Western Kentucky and at Middle Tennessee, dropping to 0-3 in Sun Belt games. Tony Mitchell leads the team in scoring, at 13.7 points per game, while also grabbing 8.9 boards per game. Chris Jones has distributed the ball well, averaging 4.6 assists per game to go along with 10.2 points.
Troy is 3-8 all-time against North Texas and is just 1-4 in Denton, Texas. The Trojans were defeated by the Mean Green, 87-65, in Texas last season. Jones scored 13 points in the loss, while R.J. Scott scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Chambers was held scoreless, but tore down seven boards.
