Bonnie Mills Rowland

Bonnie Mills Rowland, a resident of Avon, died late Saturday morning, December 15, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. She was 90.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in the Bluff Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Dennis Singletary and Reverend Homer Davis, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Bluff Springs Baptist Church, 1990 Bluff Springs Road, Ashford, AL 36312.

            Ms. Rowland was born March 8, 1922 in Houston County, daughter of the late Wilborn Mills and Eunice Jones Mills. She attended Ashford High School and lived the majority of her life in the Ashford area except for fifteen years that she lived in Florida. Ms. Rowland was an active member of the Bluff Springs Baptist Church and the Ma Addison Sunday School Class and enjoyed serving on the tape ministry and the benevolence committees. Upon trusting Christ as her Saviour and Lord at the age of thirteen, she was baptized in the old church pool and remained His faithful follower throughout her lifetime.The majority of her work was in health care, working in nursing homes in Florida and Alabama. She retired in 1987 from Wesley Manor Retirement Home in Dothan. She was preceded in death by the father of her daughter, Heflin Rowland, a sister, Pauline Mills, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Virgil and Myra Mills.

            Surviving relatives include her daughter, Vicki Louise Rowland, Avon, AL; a sister, Ruth Kirkland and husband, Kenneth, Webb, AL; a brother, J. W. Mills, Jr. and wife, Ann, Avon, AL; several very special nieces and nephews.
