From Alabama Media Relations:

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Junior center Carl Engstrom will miss the remainder of the 2012-13 season after having surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

Surgery was performed on Tuesday morning by Dr. Lyle Cain of Andrews Sports Medicine at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

Engstrom suffered the injury just three minutes into the Crimson Tide's game at nationally-ranked Cincinnati on December 1st.

"We are disappointed to lose Carl for the remainder of the season," UA head coach Anthony Grant said. "Carl is a very valuable member of our team and will be greatly missed. However, the hard work and determination that he has displayed throughout his career will also assist him going forward as he rehabs and prepares to continue his career next season. We are fortunate to have an outstanding medical team that will assist him during this process."

Engstrom, a 7-1 center from Ystad, Sweden, had played in seven contests this season, making three starts. For his career, Engstrom has played in 53 games, making four starts.
