Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony to Take Place Friday

MONTGOMERY - Governor Robert Bentley, First Lady Dianne Bentley and members of the Garden Club of Alabama on Friday will light the State's Christmas tree during a ceremony that begins at 5:15 p.m. at the State Capitol.
 
The Christmas tree, located at the top of the State Capitol's main entrance along Dexter Avenue, is a 35-foot Eastern Red Cedar grown in Bullock County.  The tree was donated by Elisabeth Thompson, owner of the Feathers Plantation in Fitzpatrick.
 
The theme of the Christmas tree lighting ceremony is "Every Light a Prayer for Peace."  Joining Governor Bentley at the tree lighting ceremony will be Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange and Lt. Gen. David Fadok, Commander and President of Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base, who will offer a special tribute to military troops.  A special musical performance will be provided by the 5th and 6th grade classes from Holy Cross Episcopal School in Montgomery.
