Massey Missing After Attack

The attorney who represents convicted lobbyist Jarrod Massey is asking a judge to order the Bureau of Prisons to reveal the location of his client.  In a federal court filing, Joseph J. Basgier said Massey was moved from a federal prison at Maxwell Air Force Base after "an attack."

The type of attack was not specified and Bargier, responding to an email inquiry, declined to elaborate.  "Unfortunately, I can make no comment on Mr. Massey's situation at this time as I understand that there may be a pending investigation that I am unwilling to jeopardize by making a public statement," he said.

In his filing, Bargier claims he has attempted to contact the Bureau of Prisons to in order to locate Massey but BOP has, so far, failed to reply.  He said messages left requesting an immediate attorney visit have been ignored. Bargier claims he is very concerned about the well being of his client.

The inmate website for the Bureau of Prisons shows Massey is now housed at a medium security facility in Talladega. It's not immediately clear when his location status was updated or if the information is correct. 

Massey was sentenced to 65 months incarceration in July after pleading guilty to charges involving the statehouse corruption investigation.  He was the lobbyist for Country Crossing, a bingo casino located in Houston County, which closed to avoid raid by the now defunct Governor's Task Force on Illegal Gambling. 

Country Crossing developer Ronnie Gilley was sentenced to 80 months as part of the same investigation. Former state representative Terry Spicer was also sentenced to prison as part of the probe. Both men, like Massey, pleaded guilty to charges.
