Florida International Fires Mario Cristobal

Updated: December 5, 2012

Florida International will be looking for a new head football coach after firing Mario Cristobal. Cristobal went 27-47 in six seasons with the Golden Panthers.

Rutgers had originally sought out his services after Greg Schiano took an NFL head coaching position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cristobal was also in consideration to be the Pittsburgh Panthers head coach before the school hired Paul Chryst.

In August 2011, Cristobal was given a four-year extension from FIU.

In 2012, the Golden Panthers went 2-6 in the Sun Belt Conference and 3-9 overall.
