The first class of Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine will soon be hitting the books, but they will also need a place to rest their heads and it won't be much longer before that happens.

"We are going to be constructing a ready for occupancy July 2013 330,000 square foot residential apartment buildings," said Heath Burleson, Corvias Campus Living Program Director

This on-campus housing site will be constructed by Corvias Campus Living, a company dedicated to developing student housing.

ACOM and Corvias both agree that this 117 bedroom dormitory will be far more than a place to live

"There is also going to be a roughly 3000 square foot club house that will house a cardio and fitness facility a communal kitchen as well as gathering spaces for the students."

The future home for students is also going to bring a lot of jobs with it.

"There will be a lot of construction jobs created in  a very short period of time; as matter of fact we anticipate breaking ground sometime in the next couple of weeks," explained Burleson.

Breaking ground in the Wiregrass is nothing new for the Corvias group; they've been a part of developing military housing at Fort Rucker since 2006.

"Over the past six years we've done about 150 million dollars worth of construction and development and 96% has been dedicated to small and local businesses. We are very happy and proud to be a part of the wiregrass community and the positive impact this project is going to have on the economy," said Dothan native, Burleson with a smile.
