The Conversation Continues About Dothan Magnet Schools

All that is being requested is for the elected members of this board to hear our concerns," expressed Rhonda Pasibe at Monday night's school board meeting.

Pasibe is one of several concerned parents who have formed "Save Our Schools", a group of parents fighting to get answers about Dothan magnet schools.

The group has hosted several meetings asking all school board members to attend, but they say only Superintendent Wilder and a few other members showed up. Therefore they are still left with more questions.

"Our question to the board as well as Mr. Wilder what is being done right now to help these schools get on track?," asked Pisabe.

They also have concerns that there are steps being taken to dissolve magnet schools instead of focusing on what isn't working at two of the four middle schools.

Many ask, "Why try to fix what isn't broken?"

"Save Our Schools" said a better solution to dissolving magnet schools would be to help fix those lower performing schools.

"It is our hope that in Alabama as in our other states the magnet schools can be used a model and we can maintain what is working and repair what isn't working," said Pasibe.

Superintendent Wilder and the board continued to reiterate that no official proposal has been made about magnet schools and they are in the very early stages of developing the best plan for the future of Dothan City Schools.
